Thank you for your interest in becoming a TrustMark Registered Business. Before you start your application, please read through these frequently asked questions to ensure you are taking the right steps for your business and your specific trade.

Is TrustMark the right fit for my business?

TrustMark is the Government-endorsed quality scheme focused on protecting consumers and raising standards across the industry. It recognises tradespeople who consistently work to a high standard.  Becoming a Registered Business means committing to our robust Code of Conduct, delivering high-quality workmanship, and demonstrating excellent customer service and technical competence. If you take pride in your trade, operate your business ethically, and want to stand out to homeowners as a trusted professional, TrustMark could be a good fit for you.

How do I actually join TrustMark?

You can’t join TrustMark directly. Instead, you achieve TrustMark Registered status by joining one of our audited and licensed TrustMark Scheme Providers. These include over 40 trade associations and certification bodies, all of which assess your competence, vet your business, and ensure you meet the required standards.

How much does it cost to join?

Your total cost is made up of two parts:

• TrustMark Fee: A standard annual fee of £40 is charged for your TrustMark registration. This is billed to your Scheme Provider.

• Scheme Provider Fees: As you join through a Scheme Provider, they will charge their own assessment and membership fees. These costs will vary depending on the specific provider you choose, your trade, the scope of the work you do, and the volume of your business. These fees are separate from TrustMark and form part of your agreement with the Scheme Provider.

Are you after PAS certification for energy efficiency work?

If you carry out energy efficiency retrofit work and need to comply with PAS standards, you must be certified by a relevant Certification Body. This certification is a required step before you can become TrustMark Registered for these trades. You will need to contact a Certification Body directly and gain certification through them before obtaining your TrustMark licence.

If you’re specifically looking to carry out work under the Government funded schemes ECO4 or Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), please be aware that applications for these schemes are due to be replaced by the Warm Homes Plan as the primary government-backed home energy upgrade program. ECO4 is in its final stages and has been extended until 31st December 2026 and GBIS has now closed for applications. In this case, you should not proceed with a TrustMark application solely for this purpose.

We recommend contacting the relevant Scheme Providers directly for the most up-to-date information, including when applications may reopen and any specific requirements for these work types.

I am looking for MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) membership. Is this the right place?

If you install renewable energy products (such as solar panels or heat pumps) and are need MCS certification, you will need to apply through an approved MCS Certification Body. While TrustMark works closely with MCS, you cannot apply to an MCS Certification Body directly through us. You will need to contact and become certified with them before becoming TrustMark Registered.

You cannot apply for MCS directly through us. You must first gain certification with a relevant Certification Body, who can then support your journey to becoming TrustMark Registered.

Will I need to provide warranties or protection for my work?

Yes. As a TrustMark Registered Business, you’re expected to provide appropriate protection for your work. This helps ensure that homeowners remain covered, even if your business ceases trading.

Your Scheme Provider will outline the exact requirements for your trade, but in general, you’ll need to have financial protection in place including insurance against ceasing to trade and minimum two-year guarantees for products and workmanship.

What if I cannot find my specific trade listed?

If your trade or the specific scope of your work does not appear in our dropdown menus or search options, it means that we do not currently have a licensed TrustMark Scheme Provider that covers your sector.

If this happens, we highly recommend reaching out to a recognised trade body or existing certification scheme within your industry. You can discuss your interest in joining TrustMark with them and encourage them to explore becoming a registered TrustMark Scheme Provider.

Please note: Because our Scheme Providers are independent organisations, we cannot guarantee exactly how long it will take for them to process your information or contact you.

I understand - Proceed to join

TrustMark does not issue registration certificates and it may be something your Scheme Provider can provide.  You and your customers can validate your registration using your unique TrustMark Licence Number, which can be found using our 'Find a Business' feature via the homeowner section of the website.

If you have made an application using the TrustMark ‘How to Join’ function on our website and have not been contacted by your chosen Scheme Provider within 10 days, we would advise that you follow up with them regarding the progress.  

Business Portal – You will need to contact your Scheme Provider who can update this in our system. Then contact TrustMark who will be happy to switch your details over.

Retrofit Portal – As the owner of the account, you can make these changes within the Retrofit Portal.  You will need to log into the account using your existing credentials and add the new details as ‘new user’. 

Under our function as the Government-Endorsed Quality Scheme for home improvements carried out in and around the home we register trades businesses, Retrofit Assessors and Retrofit Coordinator via our Scheme Providers. Our remit does not extend to the registration or approval of construction products.
