015-insurance

All TrustMark Registered Businesses are required to give their customers the option to purchase insurance protection

TrustMark requires that all Registered Businesses provide a minimum two-year guarantee for all works carried out in and around the home.  This includes, but is not limited to product warranties and workmanship. You can also protect your investment with TrustMark's low-cost escrow service.

In reality, many Registered Businesses will have the ability to offer you a more comprehensive cover, so make sure you request full details from their insurance provider.

The insurance will cover you against certain risks if the business was to cease trading for any reason.  The insurances on offer may vary slightly from business to business, depending on their Scheme Provider – but whichever insurance is on offer, it must cover the following:

Prepayments

Deposits

2 year post completion of workmanship as a minimum

Rectification of defects or major damage

Non-compliance with Building Regulations

Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

TrustMark is establishing an Independent Finance Panel that will assess the suitability of financial protection against its defined criteria.

25 Year warranty

To support supply chain continuity and consumer protection during the transition period TrustMark will accept the current list of appropriate guarantees as established by Ofgem.

Any person wishing to use the listed policies, must make their own assessment as to the whether the guarantee provides adequate cover and meets their needs. A supplier is not required to use a guarantee listed here.

A supplier may choose to use another guarantee that the supplier considers meets the criteria for an appropriate guarantee. In this case Ofgem will, when assessing the savings notified by the supplier, make a judgement as to whether the guarantee is an appropriate guarantee. If the guarantee does not meet the criteria for an appropriate guarantee, Ofgem will be unable to attribute the savings notified by the supplier.

2 Year warranty

The TrustMark Framework Operating Requirements (FOR) requires a TrustMark Registered Business to provide a consumer with suitable financial protection for a period of two years covering product warranty and workmanship guarantee.  It is the responsibility of the Scheme Provider that the business is registered with to ensure that this is provided for all works undertaken where appropriate.

The list below is not exhaustive and may be updated from time to time, it provides contact details for organisations providing financial protection. You should check with your Scheme Provider how your existing financial protection arrangements meet the TrustMark requirements for two-year warranty provision, as detailed in Section 10 of the Framework Operating Requirement.  You may wish to use this list to help you find appropriate financial protection as required.

Next steps

We recognise that the industry has been accustomed to being provided a list of ‘appropriate guarantees’ and to support this practice we will commence the collection of information to provide the organisations in the sectors that can deliver the required products and/or methods as ratified by the Financial Protection Panel.

We will update this on a regular basis with new financial protection providers that may be contacted by the businesses to assess if the areas of work they undertake are covered by the provider.  We expect the details of the providers to start to be populated over the next weeks to allow sufficient time to agree suitable protection.
