All TrustMark Registered Businesses are required to provide their customers with the appropriate level of financial protection

TrustMark requires that all Registered Businesses provide a minimum two-year guarantee for all works carried out in and around the home.  This includes, but is not limited to product warranties and workmanship. You can also protect your investment with TrustMark's low-cost escrow service.

In reality, many Registered Businesses will have the ability to offer you a more comprehensive cover, so make sure you request full details from their insurance provider.

The insurance will cover you against certain risks if the business was to cease trading for any reason.  The insurances on offer may vary slightly from business to business, depending on their Scheme Provider – but whichever insurance is on offer, it must cover the following:

  • Prepayments & Deposits
  • 2-Year Post Completion of Workmanship as a minimum
  • Rectification of defects or major damage
  • Non-compliance with Building Regulations

Financial Protection Requirements

TrustMark recognise there is a need to clarify the position for the supply chain, including the delivery of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), regarding consumer financial protection requirements.

The TrustMark Framework Operating Requirements state that all works, as a minimum, must provide two years financial protection cover and be approved by TrustMark, however, it is understood that this requirement poses several challenges within the financial protection marketplace, particularly measures outside of the ECO regulatory requirement, or those that have new implementation dates.

To assist the financial protection providers and give time to fulfil this requirement, TrustMark had agreed an initial three-month transitional period before any two-year guarantee must be TrustMark approved. However, partially due to the unforeseen additional challenges of the COVID19 pandemic and due to the challenges presented to the financial protection providers, this transitional period has been extended for a further one month up to 30th April 2020.  The extension will be kept under review based on the availability of approved financial protection.  During this period, the TrustMark Financial Protection Panel continues to strive towards taking all applications for financial protection mechanisms through the process as quickly as possible.

To reiterate, during this transitional period the following applies:

1. The TrustMark requirement for a minimum 2-year financial protection may be covered by appropriate financial protection mechanisms or a combination of product guarantee and installer warranty/guarantee which are for a duration of 2-years but are not TrustMark approved, from 1st January 2020 up until 30th April 2020.

2. Measures with a current one-year protection can simply be extended to cover two years, as above, (boiler /electric storage heater installations will need to adhere to the ECO regulatory requirements of two years effective from 1st January 2020).

3. For RIRI and UFI measures, a 2-year guarantee which is not TrustMark approved (as stated in points 1 and 2) will be sufficient up until the end of the transition period. After 30th April 2020, the TrustMark requirement for a 2-year guarantee will be sufficient until the 25-year requirement becomes mandatory on 1st July 2020.

4. Existing requirements for other measures remain unchanged.

The list of approved financial protection options will be maintained on the TrustMark website.
