All TrustMark Registered Businesses are required to provide their customers with the appropriate level of financial protection

 

TrustMark requires that all Registered Businesses provide a minimum two-year financial protection mechanism for all works carried out in and around the home.  This includes but is not limited to product warranties and workmanship. You can also protect your investment with TrustMark's low-cost escrow service.

Many Registered Businesses will have the ability to offer you a more comprehensive cover, so make sure you request full details from their provider.

The financial protection mechanism will cover you against certain risks if the business were to cease trading for any reason.  The protection on offer may vary slightly from business to business, depending on their provider – but whichever financial protection mechanism is on offer, it must cover the following:

  • Prepayments & Deposits
  • 2-Year Post Completion of Workmanship as a minimum
  • Rectification of defects or major damage
  • Non-compliance with Building Regulations

 

 

Financial Protection Requirements

TrustMark is pleased to announce to the supply chain that an approved guarantee is now available for all Energy Company Obligation (ECO) measures, with the exception of ‘bottled LPG boilers’.  The information below provides full details of which financial protection mechanisms are available, from which providers, with the appropriate contact details to help you make the necessary arrangements. 

In regard to ‘bottled LPG boilers’ with a current one-year protection, you will be required to adhere to the TrustMark two year warranty requirements as a minimum in the absence of a TrustMark approved guarantee.  We welcome providers to come forward with an application if they wish to fulfil this requirement. 

The TrustMark approved 25 year guarantee for RIRI and UFI measures and the requirement for this from 1st May has been reviewed by BEIS, Ofgem and TrustMark following recognition of the challenges this brings to industry from the feedback subsequently received. In light of this, although we would strongly encourage businesses to issue the new 25 year guarantees now available, this will remain optional until 1st July 2020. 

To reiterate, from 1 July 2020 onwards it will be a mandatory requirement for all RIRI and UFI measures to be accompanied by an appropriate warranty of 25 years or more.

During this period, which is fast approaching, we would recommend that you contact your provider to ensure you have everything in place in readiness for July. 

Ahead of 1st July, BEIS will be publishing a best practice guide for industry for underfloor insulation and this will be used by financial protection providers to assess compliance with relevant requirements in the guide. 

As a reminder, the requirement for the TrustMark approved 2 year guarantee for boiler and electric storage heating measures becomes effective for measures installed on or after 1st May 2020 as the previously published transition period has now come to an end.
The list of approved financial protection options will be maintained on the TrustMark website.
