Proposed Scheme Changes

TrustMark Consultation - Building stronger protection for home improvement customers

TrustMark is consulting on proposed changes to how we work with our Scheme Providers and how we register and oversee the businesses and individuals registered with our scheme.

Why This Matters

{ "markup": "

For over 20 years, TrustMark has been the UK Government's endorsed quality scheme, helping people find trusted businesses for work in and around their home. Since we launched in 2005, we've worked closely with our Scheme Providers, consumer bodies, government and the sector to raise standards across the industry.

The home improvement sector is thriving, worth an estimated £38.5 billion a year, and the government's £15 billion Warm Homes Plan is set to bring a wave of new work to help make UK homes warmer, more comfortable, healthier and greener. That's a huge opportunity for the businesses doing quality work, and for the consumers who rely on them. It also means consumer protection has never mattered more.

Our own experience over the last few years, including building robust audit and data capability, has shown us where we can go further to support both consumers and businesses. Our latest Consumer Protection Report shows the consumers’ view of the support and protection they want and need. Together with the government's wider reforms to consumer protection for home upgrade schemes, that experience is shaping the changes that need to happen.

What We're Proposing

{ "markup": "

Some of the changes we're proposing include:

  • Building a direct relationship with every TrustMark Registered Business and individual, including Retrofit Assessors and Retrofit Coordinators

  • Becoming a single, easy point of contact for consumers when things need resolving

  • Strengthening the financial protection that covers work carried out under the TrustMark scheme

  • Opening up the TrustMark Data Warehouse, our secure system for recording work, to more of the work carried out under our scheme to drive improved consumer protection and build richer insights

  • Introducing changes to registration and lodgement fees

The time for change is now. Working with our valued Scheme Providers, Registered Businesses and stakeholders across the home improvement sector, we can all be part of that change.

Your input to our consultation on our proposed Quality Scheme changes is the next step.
