TrustMark is proud to be part of the government’s pivotal Green Homes Grant, which launches today (Wednesday 30 September 2020).
The Green Homes Grant announced in August will see the government fund up to two-thirds of the cost of home improvements of over 600,000 homes, supporting over 100,000 jobs in green construction. This is the kickstart the construction and energy sector needs to help the UK reach the target of net zero by 2050.
Business and Energy Secretary Alok Sharma said: “Our TrustMark scheme will guarantee that building work is completed to a high standard by accredited tradespeople, ensuring consumers are fully protected.”
The vouchers will allow homeowners to obtain funding for up to two-thirds (up to £5000) of the cost of the energy efficiency measures identified, while lower income households including those on certain benefits could be entitled to have as much as £10,000 of the costs fully covered.
What’s Covered?
Under the Green Homes Grant, homeowners will be able to apply for funding to improve the property’s energy efficiency. This is a significant opportunity for tradespeople who are able to carry out the following works to gather new business:
- External wall insulation; internal wall insulation; cavity wall insulation
- Under-floor insulation: solid Floor
- Under-floor insulation: suspended Floor
- Loft insulation; flat roof insulation; room-in-roof insulation
- Air source; ground source heat pump
- Solar thermal
- Biomass boiler
In addition, households can use their voucher for further energy saving measures. These include one or more of the following:
- Draught proofing; double or triple glazing; secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing
- Energy efficient replacement doors
- Hot water tank thermostat; hot water tank insulation; heating controls

The Green Homes Grant and Whole House Retrofit
The Green Homes Grant scheme is a vital step in our journey to meeting net-zero carbon targets, not just the injection of funds, but also in raising awareness of the required nationwide movement towards Whole House Retrofit.
Approximately 24 million homes across the UK need retrofitting in order to meet the government’s targets of being a zero-carbon country by 2050. Whole House Retrofit is a complete approach to making properties more energy-efficient, focusing on the fabric of the house first including, but not limited to:
-
Walls
-
Roofs
-
Floors
-
Windows
-
Doors
By considering the whole house, these improvements will encourage healthier and more comfortable homes.

TrustMark CEO Simon Ayers says:
“The time for innovation and development is with us and we all have a part to play. Through the Green Homes Grant we can collectively contribute in the delivery of low carbon homes, providing healthier and more comfortable living conditions, whilst helping reach the goal of net-zero.”
Businesses wanting to complete work under the scheme can do so by signing up to TrustMark. All businesses need to be certified to install energy efficiency or low carbon heat measures to the relevant standards. Join here: https://www.trustmark.org.uk/tradespeople/join-through-trustmark

The government and industry have written new guidelines for tradespeople that promote safe working in and around people’s homes. But staying safe is a joint responsibility, and we all have a duty to protect each other.
Our three-part guide will help you know what to do before, during and after you have tradespeople working for you.
