Who is TrustMark?

The only Government endorsed quality scheme for work carried out in or around your home

Introduction

We are TrustMark - the only UK Government-Endorsed Quality Scheme for work carried out in and around the home. We are passionate about quality and assurance and what that means for homeowners and our Registered Businesses.

Since we started in 2005, we have been working to help drive-up standards across the industry and improve the protection offered to homeowners when having work done. We’re a not-for-profit business which means we can focus on our customers – homeowners and tradespeople - and not on shareholders.

If you’re a homeowner we can help you find a tradesperson who is skilled, trained and competent to carry out the work you need.

Whoever you’re looking for – plumbers, electricians, landscape gardeners, someone to clean your carpet or fit a new TV aerial – our list of TrustMark Registered Businesses includes them.

If you’re a tradesperson looking to demonstrate your commitment to doing a great job with high levels of customer service, you can apply to join around 15,000 other TrustMark Registered Businesses.

How we work

TrustMark is a not-for-profit organisation, operating under a Master Licence Agreement, issued by the Government’s Department for Business & Trade. This Agreement sets out what we do and how we do it.

We have an independent Board, first appointed in 2018, who work alongside an independent Financial Protection Panel. This provides impartial oversight of our business and in-depth scrutiny over the levels of consumer protection provided by businesses.

We license and work with our network of Scheme Providers – accreditation bodies and trade associations – who commit to meeting the operating requirements of our Quality Scheme.

In turn, our Scheme Providers license and work with their TrustMark Registered Businesses to ensure they commit to and maintain the required standards of technical competence, trading practices and customer service.

These practices help to provide assurance and confidence for homeowners when they engage a TrustMark Registered Business and for trades, it helps to demonstrate their quality and professionalism.

Unlike many other trader approval schemes, TrustMark is a not-for-profit organisation. Profits are continually reinvested into the scheme to improve levels of service and enhance consumer protection.

Our Scheme Providers

TrustMark licences and audits over 35 Scheme Providers with over 18,000 Registered Businesses. These encompass 115 different service types and include everything you might expect: plumbers, electricians and builders to a few you might not: carpet cleaners, landscape gardeners and leadwork specialists, plus most trades in-between.

Under the TrustMark Framework Operating Requirements, Scheme Providers are responsible for the conduct of their members and must do their best to help resolve disputes between businesses and their customers. If the dispute is complex, the Scheme Provider may suggest using an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider to help resolve the matter.

At TrustMark we understand that dealing with disputes can be stressful and our priority is to help consumers achieve fair, timely and cost-effective solutions. Our role is not to investigate specific consumer complaints, but we work closely with our Scheme Providers, and their Registered Businesses, to ensure that the correct processes and procedures within the TrustMark scheme have been followed.
