NFRC - NHIC Award Winners

30 Nov 2011

THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF ROOFING CONTRACTORS WINS TRUSTMARK AWARD FOR INNOVATIVE CAMPAIGN AT NATIONAL HOME IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL'S ANNUAL AWARDS 2011

TrustMark, the Government-endorsed quality mark for tradesmen, announces the winner of its sponsored skills and training category - the National Federation of Roofing Contractors Limited (NFRC) for its innovative 'CompetentRoofer' campaign, which is a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) to raise standards within the roofing industry.

CompetentRoofer is the first and only Government-authorised CPS that allows registered roofing companies, who meet inspection criteria, to self-certify for Building Regulations on refurbishment roof work across both domestic and commercial sectors.

The National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) Annual Awards took place on Thursday, 24th November 2011 at the Gladstone Library, London.  Andrew Stunnell MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State - Department of Communities & Local Government presented all the winners with their prestigious awards, including Gary Simcock, Company Secretary, and Ian Henning, Technical Manager from the NFRC.

TrustMark was a sponsor of the 'raising standards in training and skills' category, which included two areas of entry - one for TrustMark scheme operators and the other for TrustMark retail partners to raise the standards within their sectors.

NFRC Chief Executive Ray Horwood, commented: "It is a great honour for us to win this prestigious TrustMark award at the NHIC ceremony, not only because it is at the UK's premier housing event, but also because we have been recognised for our commitment to ensure high standards within the entire roofing industry. Competent Person Schemes are primarily about the Building Regulations but we wanted to go one step further and provide added protection for the domestic clients by making a free 10 year warranty compulsory for every notifiable contract.  We set up the 'CompetentRoofer' in October 2010 to work with Local Authority Building Control to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and the benefits that this brings to building owners."

Stuart Carter, Head of PR and Marketing at TrustMark, said: "Congratulations to the NFRC for winning their award - a great example of how a trade association can successfully raise standards within their sector.  The NFRC's entry was of the highest calibre and it demonstrated great initiative to improve the roofing profession - CompetentRoofer has enabled reputable roofing companies to gain a competitive advantage over rogue operators, whilst saving time and money on projects."

NFRC is the largest roofing trade association in the UK representing over 70% of the roofing industry by value.  It has been a TrustMark scheme operator since TrustMark was set up six years ago.
