22 Oct 2011
TRUSTMARK LICENCES NEW GLAZING CERTIFIER
Certass has been approved by TrustMark as a new scheme operator
for the glazing and conservatory trades, and
to help sign up firms to the Government endorsed quality mark,
which helps consumers find reliable and trustworthy local
tradesmen.
Certass brings more than 1200 new glazing firms into the
TrustMark scheme and it will continue to add
further members firms over the coming months. These firms
will form part of TrustMark's unique trades search engine to enable
consumers to find trustworthy tradesmen to carry out repairs,
maintenance and improvement work around the home.
Established in 2006, Certass is a Competent Person Scheme in
England and Wales, which enables companies that
install replacement windows, doors and associated glazing products
in the home to self certify compliance under the relevant UK
Building Regulations. It is a not-for-profit organisation
dedicated to raising standards in the glazing industry.
Barrie Smith-Wright, Managing Director for Certass, says: "We
welcome the opportunity to work with TrustMark and are
delighted to have achieved scheme operator status. It is a
positive step forward for Certass as we are now in a position to
offer our registered firms the opportunity to generate more
business from homeowners who care about quality.
"Our objective is to ensure that the public recognise Certass as
meeting the highest standards within the glazing industry, and
by being TrustMark approved, we will be able to deliver a
competitive advantage for our members."

Notes to Editors:
TrustMark
- TrustMark is the Government endorsed not-for-profit quality
mark for tradesmen. It is an independent scheme owned and operated
under licence from the Department for Business, Innovation and
Skills (BIS).
- TrustMark's website has an easy to use UK wide postcode search
facility, which provides details of more than 20,000 licenced
trades and has the largest database of accredited tradesmen in the
country.
- All TrustMark firms' technical skills have been independently
checked through on-site inspections to ensure a high quality of
workmanship and trading practices. TrustMark is the only
scheme that requires qualified inspectors to do these visits, so
that technical competence is checked as well as business practices
and customer satisfaction.
- TrustMark firms work to Government endorsed standards and are
able to offer insurance backed warranties and deposit protection,
as well as operating a user-friendly complaints procedure.
Certass
- Certass, is a Competent Person Scheme covering the
installation of replacement windows, doors and associated glazing
products in domestic properties. It is licenced by
the Department for Communities and Local Government.
- Certass was established in 2006 and is a not-for-profit
organisation dedicated to raising standards in the glazing
industry.
- Membership of Certass enables contractors to self-certify
installations as an alternative to submitting a building notice
or
using an approved inspector. In simple terms, this means
that Certass financially and technically assesses its members to
ensure they meet current UK building regulations. Once an
installation is complete, Certass notifies the local
authority and the Building Regulation Compliance Certificate is
issued to the homeowner.
