Calling London Based SME

08 Jul 2010

As a member of a reputable organisation and scheme, you already recognise the benefit of joining initiatives that are beneficial to your company.

There is one programme, therefore, that you may not be aware of that is operating solely in London and is free for members to participate in, and it's called FLASH.

FLASH is a programme run by the Institute for Sustainability and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to provide a range of business support to London-based Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

It has been designed to aid businesses working in construction and other built environment industries to seize the commercial opportunities presented by the demand for sustainable development and retrofit. This will in turn promote economic growth and regeneration across London.

One of TrustMark's scheme operators - The National Federation of Roofing Contractors along with six other leading professional bodies: CIPHE, FMB, RIBA, RICS, BSK-CIC, and CE are partners involved in the programme to provide knowledge and support relevant to their business type and specialism.

The NFRC programme is focused on the building envelope and topics covered so far have included solar installation, sources of training, maintenance of renewables technologies, infra-red thermography and more.

It's a valuable programme for any built environment SME within London and will address your area of specialism in relation to the whole building and actively encourage members to network with others.

Companies who join will benefit from unique opportunities to see retrofit projects, attend workshops, seminars, networking opportunities and events as well as opportunities for businesses to work with leading academics to solve innovation issues.

The retrofit market is a fast growing business opportunity and companies that don't start looking into what sustainable services and products could be made part of their company or broaden their networking capabilities will be left behind.

FLASH will be drawing to a close in June 2012. The only requirements for companies to join are:

Companies must commit to attend a minimum of 12 hours worth of course content which can be made up of site visits, workshops, network events

  • They must employ fewer than 250 persons with an annual turnover below €50m
  • and/or its balance sheet below €43m
  • They must hold a registered London Borough postcode.
