Rogues are giving Britain's tradesmen a bad name. Builders have
been voted the fourth least trustworthy profession in the UK, even
though 96% of homeowners are happy with the work carried
out*.
In response, TrustMark - the Government backed, not for profit
quality mark for tradesmen - is launching a nationwide search to
find the top UK tradesmen and is calling for all tradesmen and
homeowners to log onto www.100tradesmen.co.uk and get
involved.
Roman Russocki, Chief Executive of TrustMark, says: "From
carpenters and electricians, to glaziers and roofers, this is the
chance for local tradesmen to shine. By establishing the top 100,
we want to highlight the best that British tradesmen have to offer
and give them the recognition they deserve. Even Simon Cowell would
be hard pressed to be critical of the quality of work we're
expecting to be entered".
If you're a tradesman who feels proud of your work go to
www.100tradesmen.co.uk to nominate yourself or alternatively if
you're a homeowner who has been impressed by the standard of work
carried out, you can also recommend this tradesman through the same
site.
The No1 tradesman will win £4,000 and the top 10 will receive a
year's membership of their relevant trade association**. A further
£1,000 is also up for grabs by a homeowner if they recommend the
No1 tradesman.
Tradesmen only have a month to sign up for their chance to become
'UK's Top Tradesman 2009'.
The tradesmen will be assessed by members of the National Home
Improvement Council, the Electrical Safety Council, the Chartered
Institute of Building and TrustMark, and the winners will be
announced this November.
